# Data retention policy for closed questions

Once a question is closed, how long is it kept before it is purged, if it ever is?

Closed questions are kept indefinitely, closing just changes the status, it does not schedule any deletion. They only go away if someone explicitly deletes them.

Makes sense, we were worried closing questions was quietly deleting history.

Confirmed, our closed questions from a year ago are all still there.
