# Do public visitors need an account to read answers

Do people need to create an account just to read answers, or only when they want to post a new question?

I read this forum for months before ever making an account, reading is completely open, you only need to sign in to post a question or vote.

Right, reading and even searching is fully public, sign in is only needed to post, vote, or follow a thread.
